Earl V. Thorne, 73 of 111 E. Baltimore St., died Friday at S. Baltimore General Hospital, following a long illness.

Born in Manasas, Va., he was the son of Ernest and Flora Riley Thorne.

He worked for Monumental Life Insurance Co. and the Union Liberty Insurance Co. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Woodmen of the World, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aeris #94 and the Loyal Order of Moose No. 212 of Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Brown Thorne; one daughter, Jean T. Brown, M.D. of Baltimore. Md.; and two brothers, Carl Thorne of Alexandria, Va. and Fred Thorne of Kent Island, Md.

Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., the Rev. John R. Lebo will officiate.

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9.
