He served with his regiment through all of its campaigns, through KY, TN, GA, AL and the Carolinas. He participated in 17 battles of which Piketon, KY was the first on Nov 9, 1861. Others were: Shiloh, Corinth, Laverne, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Stone River, Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, Adairsville, Dallas, New Hope Church, Kennesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, Jonesboro and Love Joy Station.
After the war, he returned home to Clermont Co. and married his 1st wife, Mary Jane Davis, on April 29, 1866. They had five children of this union; Edward, Harry, William, Frank and Dollie. On Dec 24, 1885 he married Laura Isadora Wilson (Church, married name) on Dec 24, 1885. Their children were Albert, James, Clyde, Rosa, Mary, Raymond, Anna and Florence.
